Over 1.90 Thousand Students have Applied for JEE Advanced 2025
The country’s most prestigious and toughest engineering entrance exam JEE-Advanced will be held this year on 18th May in two shifts from 9 am to 12 pm and 2.30 pm to 5.30 pm.
The application process for this exam being organized by IIT Kanpur has concluded on 2 May. About 1.90 lakh students have applied for the examination.
Large numbers of eligible candidates do not appear for JEE Advanced exam every year
Career Counseling Expert of ALLEN Career Institute said that every year, out of lakhs of aspirants of JEE-Main examination, top 2.50 lakh students are qualified for JEE-Advanced exam.
Among these qualified students, there are thousands of students who do not appear in the exam despite being eligible.
If we look at the situation of the last 6 years, there are about 5 lakh students who did not appear in the exam despite being eligible for JEE-Advanced exam.
In the year 2019, out of 2.50 lakh, 1,61,319 students in 2020 150858, 141699 in 2021, 155532 in 2022, 180372 in 2023, 180200 in 2024 appeared in the JEE Advanced exam.
In such a situation, in the last six years only, more than 5 lakh students did not appear in the exam even after qualifying for Advanced on the basis of JEE-Main.
What are the possible reasons?
- JEE-Advanced exam is held after the board examinations. In such a situation, it is possible that many students are unable to fulfil the board eligibility of 75% marks or top-20 percentile and hence do not appear in the exam.
- Many students have a third attempt in JEE Main. But are not eligible for the Advanced exam, because there are only two attempts for JEE-Advanced exam, it can be taken along with 12th board and after 12th in consecutive years.
- Many students prepare for the whole year keeping in mind the NIT-IIIT colleges available on the basis of JEE Main, they find JEE-Advanced a big challenge and do not show interest in taking the exam.
