MCC had Earlier Abruptly Suspended the Seat Allotment Results but Later Revoked the Suspension
Confusion prevailed throughout Wednesday regarding the second round of seat allotment for the NEET UG 2025 central counselling conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC). In the afternoon, the MCC abruptly suspended the seat allotment results, but in a circular issued at 8 p.m., it clarified that the previously announced results would be considered final. All candidates were instructed to re-download their allotment letters and complete reporting and joining on time.
The second round of seat allotment lists released on Wednesday allocated seats for MBBS courses to candidates under the 15% All India Quota in medical colleges across the country. However, in the afternoon, the MCC abruptly issued a circular withdrawing the results.
The circular stated that the Director General of Health Services (DGHS) of the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had received information that some government medical colleges had inadvertently uploaded twice the number of available seats.
This resulted in the counselling software allocating these additional seats. In light of this error, the MCC suspended the results and advised candidates to wait for the revised final results before reporting. The suspension was lifted in the evening, with the earlier results considered valid.
Career Counselling expert explained that the circular issued at 4:30 pm had created confusion among candidates. Many candidates had already prepared to report, but the sudden suspension left them confused. However, at 8 pm, the MCC issued another circular clarifying that the previously announced results of the second round would be the final results.
According to the circular, no candidate’s allotment has been changed. All allotments will remain valid as before. Candidates were also instructed to re-download their allotment letters and complete the reporting and joining process at the respective college within the stipulated deadline.
According to the results released Wednesday evening, the cut-off ranks for various categories in the second round were as follows:
General Category: 24,949 Rank
EWS Category: 28,920 Rank
OBC Category: 25,108 Rank
SC Category: 1,32,649 Rank
ST Category: 1,56,601 Rank
Meanwhile, the closing rank for medical colleges affiliated with deemed universities reached 821,077. These figures clearly indicate that competition for All India Quota seats was extremely fierce this time as well.
In its latest notice, the MCC has clarified to all candidates that they must download their allotment letter and report to the respective medical college on time. The reporting process includes document verification, fee submission, and formal admission to the college.
If a candidate fails to report within the stipulated deadline, their allotted seat may be cancelled. Such candidates will not be eligible to participate in the next round. Therefore, the MCC has strongly advised everyone to complete the process on time.
The sudden suspension and subsequent revalidation of results certainly caused temporary stress among students, but when the MCC finally accepted the previously released results as final, candidates breathed a sigh of relief. Now everyone’s attention is focused on college reporting and admission formalities.
The MCC’s central counselling process involves the future of millions of candidates, so transparency and accuracy are crucial. Although a technical error caused confusion on Wednesday, the MCC clarified the situation late in the evening. Candidates should now complete the reporting and joining process on time, as directed, to ensure their medical careers are smooth.
