The government has taken several steps to increase the availability of undergraduate and postgraduate seats in the medical seats. CSS for the establishment of new medical colleges by upgrading district/referral hospitals has led to the approval of 157 new medical colleges of which 72 are functional. CSS for upgradation of government medical colleges by the construction of super-specialty blocks includes a total of 75 projects which have been approved. While under the central sector scheme for setting up of new AIIMS, 22 AIIMS have been approved of which undergraduate courses have started in 19 AIIMS.
Union govt to equate fees of 50% MBBS seats of private colleges with the fees of government medical college seats
There is more good news for the students to cherish as the union government has announced to reduce the fees of 50% MBBS seats of the private medical college to the fees of MBBS seats of the government medical college which means that students of the middle class and financially weak students will get admission on the seats of the private medical colleges also. This would add more seats for the NEET aspirants.
While the total fees of the seats of private medical colleges are in tune of around Rs 1 Crore for the entire five-and-a-half- year MBBS course, the fees of the MBBS seats in government colleges are around Rs 3-to-5 lakhs for the entire term of MBBS studies. So now the students will be able to get admission on the MBBS seats of the private medical college in fees worth Rs 3-to-5 lakhs. Those aspirants of NEET 2022, who have studied in full throttle round the year, will certainly get an MBBS seat this year due to the addition of more MBBS seats this year.
