NMC Public Notice – Explicit Clarification on NIOS

Importantly, through its Public Notice dated 22 February 2025, the Under-Graduate Medical Education Board (UGMEB), National Medical Commission, issued a formal clarification regarding NIOS and open schooling.

The notice explicitly states:

“As per GMER-23 regulations, studying through NIOS is allowed for appearing for NEET UG Examinations.”

This clarification was issued after an RTI query and with approval of the Competent Authority. The communication was also shared with the National Testing Agency (NTA).

This makes the regulatory position clear: studying through NIOS, by itself, does not disqualify a candidate from appearing in NEET UG, provided prescribed academic requirements are fulfilled.
