NEET-UG 2024 Tie-Breaking Rules: 7 New Changes Implemented

No More Lottery Draw by Computer for Equal Scores

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued another information bulletin after extending the application date for the country’s largest medical entrance exam NEET-UG 2024.

Once again, the discussion about changing the tie-breaking rules has been mentioned in this notification. According to this notification, in the event of a tie-breaking, the lottery will not be drawn by computer anymore.

Over 26 Lakhs Students Have Applied for NEET UG 2024 So Far

Over 26 lakhs students have applied for the NEET UG 2024 exam so far. This exam is scheduled to be held on May 5th in 554 cities across the country and 14 foreign cities.

The National Testing Agency had made changes to the tie-breaking criteria for this year’s NEET UG exam, which is conducted in pen-paper mode.

Changes in Tie-Breaking Criteria

Earlier, the National Testing Agency had introduced the rule of drawing a lottery by computer in the tie-breaking criteria. According to the new rules of NTA, in the case of tie-breaking, the decision of the rank will no longer be determined by computer lottery (draw).

7 New Tie-Breaking Rules for NEET UG 2024 Introduced

Now, 7 tie-breaking rules have been issued. Earlier, the National Testing Agency had issued instructions for tie-breaking on February 9. Every year in NEET-UG, thousands of students come forward who have the same percentile and scores.

The New Tie-Breaking Rules are as Follows:

  1. Students with higher scores in Biology will be given a better rank.
  2. In case of a tie again, the student with higher scores in Chemistry will be given a better rank.
  3. After this, the student with higher scores in Physics will be given a better rank.
  4. In the above three rules, in case of a tie, the ratio of wrong to correct answers will be lower, and the student will be given a better rank.
  5. In case of a tie again, the ratio of incorrect to correct answers in the Biology subject will determine a better rank.
  6. The determination of better rank will be based on the ratio of wrong to correct answers in the Chemistry subject.
  7. Lastly, the ratio of incorrect to correct answers in the Physics subject will determine a better rank.
