NEET UG 2025 – Know the Examination Structure

If one wants to become a doctor in the country then NEET UG is the only competitive medical entrance examination for the aspirants. National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the NEET UG Examination for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other medical courses in government and private medical colleges in India.

NEET UG is the official medical entrance examination which is conducted in pen-and-paper-based test mode. Examination of subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (Botany & Zoology) is taken in NEET UG examination. NEET UG Examination is based on the class 11 and 12 syllabus of NCERT syllabus.

1. Mode of Examination

While JEE is conducted in Computer-based test (CBT) mode, NEET UG examination is still organized in the traditional, offline mode. Aspirant takes NEET UG examination in pen-and-paper-based mode.

Since it is an offline examination, aspirants have to fill their responses in the OMR sheet which is scanned for preparation of the results.

2. Duration of the Exam

There is a change in the duration of the examination. It will now be conducted in 3 hours (180 minutes) duration. Aspirant has to complete his examination in the given time as no extra time is provided to the aspirant.

Aspirant needs to do proper time management for ensuring success in the NEET UG examination.

3. Number of Questions and Subject-Wise Distribution

Examination of the subjects including Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany + Zoology) is taken in the NEET UG Examination. There are 45 questions each in Physics, Chemistry, and 90 questions in Biology. The maximum marks in each of the subject are 180 marks so the NEET UG examination is of 720 marks.

4. Language Options

NEET UG 2025 examination is conducted in several languages including vernacular languages. Along with Hindi and English, NEET UG examination is conducted in 13 regional and other languages.

These languages are Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Urdu, Assamese, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi etc. Aspirants has to fill out his preferred language options during the NEET UG registration process so that he is able to take the examination in his preferred language.

5. Marking Scheme for NEET UG 2025

Like any other examination, marking scheme of NEET UG is also very significant. There is also negative marking in the examination.

While 4 marks are given for every correct answer in NEET UG examination, 1 mark is deducted for every wrong answer. However, no marks are deducted if the aspirant does not attempt the question. However, 1 mark is deducted if the aspirants give multiple answers in a question.

    • Exam Time Management: Along with examination preparation, aspirant must also apply time management in examination. Aspirant must give sufficient time to each subject in a wise manner so that maximum questions can be attempted with precision.
    • Error Free OMR Filling: Aspirant has to fill OMR sheet in the NEET UG Examination but sometimes incorrect marking of the OMR sheet can lead to loss of potential marks in the examination. Hence, aspirant must practice marking of answers on OMR sheets so that last minute mistakes can be avoided.
    • Avoid Negative Marking: Since NEET UG examination has negative marking, the aspirant must be extra cautious about attempting questions. Aspirant should answer only those questions whose answer they know and should not guess answers about which they have no clue as it could result in negative marking.
    • Practice Mock Tests: The best away to simulate examination like situation is to practice mock tests. As aspirant try to attempt more and more mock sets, he gets more accustomed with the actual examination like conditions which will enable him to take the examination with accuracy and speed.

NEET UG is one of the toughest competitive examinations so it is imperative for the aspirant to first have thorough understanding its exam pattern and marking scheme.
