Reporting and Resignation Mandatory by September 24
The Medical Counseling Committee (MCC), which is involved in the counselling process for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG 2025), has extended the deadline for free exit from MBBS and BDS seats to September 24. This relief is important for students who are not satisfied with their allotted seat and want to consider other options.
What Does Free Exit Mean?
Free exit means that if a student has been allotted a seat in the first or second round but does not wish to pursue admission, they can leave that seat without any penalty. In this situation, the student’s future opportunities are secured and they remain eligible for upcoming rounds or other options.
New Deadline Set by MCC
MCC has clarified that all students must report to their respective medical or dental college by 6 pm on September 24th to formally complete the resignation process. No applications will be accepted after this time.
When a student decides to leave a seat, an online resignation letter is generated from the MCC portal. Only this letter will be considered valid and will be considered in future counseling processes.
Which Students will the Rule Apply to?
- Students who did not receive an upgrade to a seat in Round 1 – Such students can opt for free exit without any penalty.
- Students who received a new allotment in Round 2 – If they wish to leave their seat, their security deposit will be forfeited.
- Students who are upgraded from Round 1 to Round 2 can also resign, but their deposit will be forfeited.
This means that only those students who did not receive an upgrade in Round 2 can avail of the full free exit benefit.
Opinion of Education Experts
Education experts say that this decision provides flexibility to students. Students who are not yet satisfied can leave their seat and explore future options without risk. However, experts also advise that students should make this decision carefully, as once the resignation process is completed, it will be considered final.
Resignation Process
MCC has issued clear guidelines for students that resignation will only be valid online. The process is as follows:
- Students must log in to their MCC Counseling Portal.
- Click on the Resignation/Free Exit option.
- After submitting the application, a Resignation Letter will be automatically generated by the system.
- The student must download and keep it safe.
- This letter must be presented at the time of reporting to the respective medical college.
Rules Regarding Security Deposit Forfeiture
MCC has already clarified that if a student resigns after joining a seat, their security deposit will be forfeited. This rule applies to all students, whether they upgraded from Round 1 or received a new seat in Round 2.
However, students who have not yet joined a seat and have not received an upgrade can leave the seat without any loss.
Why is this opportunity important?
Students often accept a seat in haste, only to later realize that they did not get the course or college of their choice. In such a situation, the free exit option is a golden opportunity for them, as they can wait for further options without any penalty.
Experts believe this feature is especially useful for students waiting for a better college or their preferred course.
Points to note for students
- Adhere to deadlines: No applications received after 6 pm on September 24th will be valid.
- Keep the resignation letter safe: This will be the only valid proof in case of any future dispute or investigation.
- Note on security deposit: If you resign after joining the seat, the deposit will be forfeited.
- Make decisions wisely: Once you resign, you cannot return to the same seat.
The deadline for free exit from MBBS and BDS seats in NEET UG 2025 has been extended to 6 pm on September 24th. This decision is a relief for students, especially those who are still unsatisfied with their preferred college or course. MCC has also clarified that the resignation process will only be valid online, and students must take a printout and submit it to the college upon reporting.
By utilizing this opportunity wisely, students can improve their future strategy and hope to secure their desired seat in the next rounds.
