NEET UG 2025: MCC Postpones Second Round of MBBS Counselling

Revised Schedule will be Released Soon

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has announced a major decision related to the admission process in medical colleges in the country. The second round of the All India 15% quota medical-dental counselling held at the national level has been postponed. MCC has made this announcement through latest notifications.

The notification issued by the MCC states that the second round will remain postponed for the time being and its new schedule will be released soon.

Why was the NEET UG 2025 Counselling Postponed?

In the second notification issued by the MCC, two major reasons have been given behind the postponement of counselling:

  • Addition of new MBBS and BDS seats – 197 new seats of medical institutions of Telangana and Karnataka have now been added to the All India quota.
  • Document verification process of NRI candidates incomplete – Verification of documents of many foreign origin (NRI) candidates has not been completed.

Due to both these reasons, MCC had to extend the counselling deadline.

Which New Seats were Added?

This time a total of 197 BDS and MBBS seats have been included in the counselling process.

  • ESIC Medical College, Hyderabad – 9 seats.
  • Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Belgaum (Karnataka) – 158 deemed and paid seats and 30 NRI seats

With the addition of these seats, both options and opportunities have increased for the candidates. Experts believe that with the arrival of new medical colleges, students will get better options and competition will also be reduced a bit.

Impact on Academic Session

According to the schedule already released by MCC:

  • Counselling was to be held from 3 to 21 September.
  • The last date for registration was fixed as 9 September.
  • The facility of choice filling and locking was also available till September 9.

On this basis, the academic session was expected to start in medical colleges across the country from September 22. But now that the second round of counselling has been postponed, this session may get extended.

It is worth noting that earlier also the academic session was to start from September 5, but due to delay in counselling, it was extended to September 22. Now there is a possibility that the session may slip till the beginning of October.

New Institutes for Disability Certificate Verification

  • MCC has authorized 5 new medical institutes for checking and verification of disability certificate.
  • Earlier 28 institutes were given this responsibility, but now their number has increased to 33.

Newly Added Institutes:

  • Sushila Tiwari Memorial Government Hospital and Medical College, Haldwani, Uttarakhand
  • Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh
  • Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College and Hospital, Kangra (Tanda), Himachal Pradesh
  • Government Doon Medical College, Dehradun, Uttarakhand
  • Pandit B.D. Sharma Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Rohtak, Haryana
  • With the addition of these institutes, now the candidates of disability category will get more options for certificate verification and the problem of overcrowding will be reduced.

What will Happen Next?

The MCC has clarified that as soon as the addition of new seats and verification of NRI documents is completed, the revised schedule of counselling will be released. It is expected that the new schedule may come by the last week of September. Candidates have been advised to check the notification regularly on the official website of MCC.
