NMC has Issued LoP to 16 New Govt Medical Colleges Which Have Total 1000 Seats
Big relief news has come for lakhs of students preparing for NEET UG 2025. In order to make medical education more accessible, now 1,20,618 MBBS seats are available across the country. Earlier this number was 1,18,148.
The government has increased 2470 new MBBS seats this year. The announcement of new seats has come at a time when the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) is starting the second round of counselling from 4 September 2025.
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has recently issued Letter of Permission (LoP) to 16 new government medical colleges. 1000 MBBS seats have been included in these. New government medical colleges established in Tonk and Jaisalmer of Rajasthan have also got a place in it, in which 50-50 seats have been approved.
Along with this, 970 seats have been increased in 23 old government medical colleges already running. At the same time, 9 deemed universities have also been given 500 additional MBBS seats. In this way, a total of 2470 new seats have become available for the students by combining all three.
According to Career Counselling expert, the distribution of these new seats will be according to the counselling of MCC and the states. Only about 295 new government seats will be included in the All India 15 percent quota counselling conducted by MCC. At the same time, 500 seats of deemed universities will go to 100 percent all India quota.
The remaining 2175 seats will be allotted through state-level counselling. This means that students who want to do MBBS in different states will also get more opportunities now.
Many states have benefited from this time’s seat increase. Let’s see how many MBBS seats have increased in which state:
Karnataka: Maximum 400 seats
Madhya Pradesh: 275 seats
Odisha: 200 seats
Jammu and Kashmir: 190 seats
Assam: 175 seats
Punjab, Kerala, Rajasthan: 100-100 seats
West Bengal, Telangana: 75-75 seats
Delhi, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Meghalaya, Uttar Pradesh: 50-50 seats
Andhra Pradesh: Lowest 30 seats
It is clear from this list that South and Central India have benefited more this time. Especially in Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Odisha, the increase in seats will give more opportunities to the students.
For the last few years, the demand for medical education in India has been increasing continuously. Every year more than 20 lakh students appear in the NEET UG exam, but due to the limited number of seats, most of the students do not get a chance.
This time, with the opening of 16 new medical colleges and increase in seats in old colleges, students will get new opportunities in the field of medical education. Establishment of medical colleges in rural and semi-urban areas will also improve the health services there.
The benefit of seat increase will be available only when the options are chosen with the right strategy and priority.
NEET UG 2025 has brought a golden opportunity for students across the country. With the addition of 2470 new MBBS seats, the total number of seats in the country has now increased to more than 1.20 lakh. This is a historic step in the field of medical education and health services.
It is important for the students to keep a close eye on the counselling process and choose the option wisely according to their rank. The increased seats will surely pave the way for deserving and hardworking students to fulfill their dream of medical education.
