NEET UG Counseling 2025: All MBBS Seats Filled after the Stray Vacancy Round

A Special Round will be Conducted for BDS and B.Sc Nursing

NEET UG Counseling 2025-All MBBS seats filled after stray vacancy round

Following the stray vacancy round announced by the Medical Counseling Committee in the NEET UG Counseling 2025, all MBBS program seats have been filled.

There are no more MBBS seats available in any category, from government institutions to private medical colleges. A special stray vacancy round will now be held to fill the remaining seats in BDS and B.Sc Nursing courses.

This process will be announced soon, and it is likely that candidates will have to re-register and submit fees.

Before the stray vacancy round began, 802 MBBS, 325 BDS, and 95 B.Sc Nursing seats were vacant. Following the latest results, all MBBS seats have been allocated, while 34 B.Sc Nursing and 69 BDS seats remain vacant.

These seats will only be filled if candidates participate in special rounds or if students who were absent from reporting for previously allocated seats become vacant again.

Students’ Preferences for AIIMS Institutes: Madurai the Least Preferred

Competition among students for AIIMS seats persists year after year, but this time, there was a clear difference in the preferences for various AIIMS institutes.

Candidates chose AIIMS Madurai as their final choice, clearly indicating that students preferred this institute over other AIIMS. In contrast, seats at premier AIIMS institutes like Delhi, Bhopal, and Jodhpur were filled in the initial rounds.

Meanwhile, seats in institutions like Nagaland Medical College, Kohima, and Government Medical College, Sangareddy, under the All India Quota, did not see the expected interest.

Seats at these colleges remained vacant until the final stage, while competition was more pronounced at prestigious colleges in other states.

All India Quota: General Category Closing Rank for BDS Seats is 55,845

85 percent of medical college seats through NEET UG 2025 are filled through state counseling, while the remaining 15 percent are filled under the All India Quota. MCC conducts counseling for this 15 percent quota, and eligible candidates from any state can apply for these seats.

Regarding the BDS program, the closing rank for the General Category for All India Quota seats this time was 55,845. Furthermore, the closing rank for the EWS category was 61,023, for the OBC category 57,481, for the SC category 204,162, and for the ST category 263,071. These figures clearly indicate that many candidates who failed to fill MBBS seats chose BDS as an alternative, leading to higher rankings being selected in the final round.

Counseling is underway for 85 percent of seats across states, and the admission process is in its final stages in many states. While variations in state-wise cut-offs are natural, the All India Quota data provides a clear picture of student preferences across the country.

MBBS Closing Ranks in Different Categories

The final MBBS closing ranks at the end of the stray vacancy round were as follows:

  • General Category: 27,332
  •  EWS: 30,862
  •  OBC: 27,307
  •  SC: 1,38,863
  •  ST: 1,64,804

These rankings indicate that competition for MBBS programs remained undiminished even in the final round. In particular, the General, OBC, and EWS categories saw only a marginal decline in rankings compared to the initial rounds, reflecting the continued demand for MBBS seats.

Closing Ranks of AIIMS Institutes

Institutions of national importance like AIIMS continue to remain popular. Ranks across all categories remained relatively high. The final rankings were as follows:

  •  General: 16,728
  •  EWS: 19,825
  •  OBC: 26,016
  •  SC: 104,477
  •  ST: 163,006

These figures clearly indicate that competition and preference for AIIMS seats is higher than for all other medical colleges. This is why most AIIMS seats are filled in the first round, leaving only a few remaining in the final round.

Special Stray Vacancy Round: Last Chance

Candidates still seeking admission to BDS or B.Sc Nursing should wait for the upcoming Special Stray Vacancy Round. This round may require students to re-register and pay a fee. This round will fill seats that remain vacant after the Stray Vacancy Round.

Interested candidates are advised to regularly check the MCC official website for updates and complete all steps within the given deadline. This round is considered the last opportunity for admission to medical and dental education this session.
