The Blog is a Complete Guide on NEET UG 2025 Counseling
Hello students! Hope you all are healthy and well. NEET 2025 exam is over and the results are out. Now just waiting for NEET counselling, for which you will have many questions in your mind – which college will you get, what is your rank, which state, and what are the future options. To clear all these doubts on NEET UG 2025, we have prepared a blog.
Types of Counselling
There are mainly two types of counselling:
Central Quota Counselling (MCC All India Quota Counselling): It is conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and caters to the All India 15% quota of medical college seats.
State Based Counselling: It is conducted by the states and covers 85% of the state quota seats.
Apart from medical and dental, there is no third counseling. These counselings cover seats in central institutes for MBBS, BDS and some notified B.Sc Nursing courses.
MCC All India Counselling Process
MCC All India Counselling covers 15% All India Quota, 100% AIIMS seats, 100% JIPMER seats, 100% Deemed Universities seats, Pro-rata mode seats of ESI Medical Colleges, FMC seats, all dental seats and select nursing seats.
Process:
1. Online Registration: First of all, register online on the counselling portal of MCC and fill in your personal details.
2. Choice Filling: Select the colleges of your choice.
3. Security Deposit:
- ₹1,000 for General and EWS category, ₹5,500 for ST/SC and OBC non-creamy layer for government institutions.
- ₹25,000 for deemed or private universities.
After depositing this amount, you are eligible for both counselling (government and deemed/private).
Different stages of counselling
The counselling process takes place in several stages:
First Round
After seat allotment, you have two options:
Free Exit: You cannot join the allotted college and directly participate in the next round.
Joining: If you are completely satisfied with the allotted college, you can join it. Submit the documents and fees. You can express your wish for upgradation, which will make you eligible for the second round.
Second Round
If you take free exit in the first round, you can make a fresh selection of seats and colleges in the second round (excluding security deposit and registration process).
If you do not join the allotted college in the second round, your security deposit will be forfeited.
After joining, you can opt for upgradation for the third round.
Third Round (Mop-up Round)
In the third round also you can fill fresh choices, edit or delete them.
Those who did not report in the second round can participate in the third round by re-registering with a new security deposit (this was the rule till last year, wait for the new rules).
After joining the allotted college in the third round, you are not eligible to participate in any further round (state or stray vacancy).
Stray Vacancy Round (Fourth Round)
Those students who did not get any college in the first, second or third round participate in this round.
The college which is allotted to you in this round has to be taken compulsorily. If you do not do so, you can be debarred for a year (this was the rule till last year, wait for the new rules).
Time taken for counselling
The counselling process takes about 1.5 to 2 months. It can take up to 2.5 months till the second counselling and mop-up and stray rounds. Usually, the session starts around 15th September.
Important: NMC All India Counselling and State Counselling always run in alternate mode. When the allotment and joining of one counselling is over, only then the other process starts so that you cannot occupy two seats at the same time.
Important Documents
You should keep these documents ready for counselling:
10th, 11th and 12th mark sheets (if the passing certificate is different then that too).
Category Certificate:
- Central EWS and Central OBC NCL: should be made after 1st April 2025.
- ST/SC: 5-10 years old certificate is also valid.
- TC(Transfer Certificate), Migration Certificate, Good Conduct Certificate.
- Domicile Certificate (in some places).
- Gap Intervention Period Certificate/Affidavit (if applicable).
- Note: Income Certificate is not usually required, but if asked, it should contain details of combined family income (of both parents).
Free Exit and Security Deposit Refund
In the first round: There is a completely free exit. Whether you join the college or not, there will be no penalty.
In the second round: If you get a college
If you get a college and do not join it, your security deposit will be forfeited. However, you can participate in the third round with fresh registration and security deposit (this was the rule till last year).
In the third round: If you get a college and do not join it, your security deposit will be forfeited and you will not be able to participate in any further rounds.
Security deposit refund: Security deposit will not be adjusted in college fees under any circumstances. This amount will be refunded to the same account from which it was deducted after 2-3 months of completion of the counselling process.
College selection: Rank vs Dream College
There is no specific ranking of medical colleges. Students choose according to their geographical preferences and college facilities. However, Delhi colleges are usually the first choice.
You should select colleges keeping in mind your rank. Make a list of your dream colleges, but choose a realistic option according to your rank. We will also provide you a list of 150-200 colleges, which you can edit as per your preference.
New AIIMS vs State Top Colleges
It depends on personal preference:
Advantages of AIIMS:
Excellent infrastructure and campus.
Great academic environment.
Good sports activities.
Better hostel facilities.
No bond (yet).
Disadvantages of Government Medical Colleges:
Campus and hostels are not that good.
Lack of sports facilities.
Service bond (can be of 1-5 years).
If you are getting AIIMS and the bond factor is important, then it is better to choose AIIMS.
Upgradation from BDS to MBBS
Upgradation from BDS to MBBS is 100% possible in Round 1, 2 and 3. If you are allotted a BDS college, you can join it and apply for upgradation. However, if you do not join the allotted college after the third round, you will not be eligible for further counselling.
Deemed Universities and Private Colleges
Deemed Universities: These are completely self-funded and any student is eligible. Their fees start from ₹19-20 lakh per year, which is quite expensive.
Semi-Government/Private Colleges: In most states, private colleges do not have seats for outsiders. However, in some states like Karnataka, Kerala and Uttar Pradesh, private colleges have seats for outsiders, but their fees are also quite high. There are no seats available for outsiders in any government medical college.
FMC (Armed Forces Medical College)
You have to take 7 years of Short Service Commission to get admission in FMC and 15 years of Permanent Commission to do PG. If you leave it, you have to give a bond of ₹68 lakh. It offers a disciplined military life, excellent academic facilities and low fees.
FMC Counselling Process:
- Choose FMC during MCC counselling.
- Shortlisted students will have to undergo written examination (Toler Test of English Language and Reasoning), Psychological Aptitude Test (PAT), Interview and Medical Examination.
- The final merit list is prepared on the basis of NEET score, Toler score and Interview score.
State Domicile
Your domicile will decide which state’s state quota you are eligible for. Domicile status does not change if you study 11th and 12th from somewhere else.
PG Quota
Domicile policies do not apply for PG seats. You will be eligible for 50% of PG seats in the state from which you have done UG (MBBS). AIIMS does not have any internal PG quota, but has Institutional Preferences, which can help you get a good branch based on your rank.
Discontinuation Bond
If you leave BDS or any other course midway, you will have to pay the discontinuation bond set by that state. This bond can range from ₹10 lakh to ₹50 lakh, so take a very careful decision before choosing any college.
Other Career Options
Apart from MBBS, through NEET you can also do courses like BHMS, BYNS, Unani Doctor, BDS, BAMS (Ayurvedic Doctor) and Veterinary.
Apart from this, through CUET exam you can get admission in courses like Paramedical, Applied Sciences, Basic Sciences and BSc Nursing. With Biology, you can also make a career in BBA, MBA, B Pharma and Agricultural Sciences.
AIIMS conducts its own examinations for Paramedical and Nursing courses.
Allen’s Initiative
In view of the change in the pattern of this year’s paper, Allen has updated its teaching strategy, test planning and study material. Now students will also have to focus on concepts and in-depth questions outside NCERT.
If you are on the boundary line and you feel that you can improve, then start studying immediately. Re-admission in Allen can get you up to 90% scholarship. If you get admission in a government medical college, a major part of your deposited fees (around 75%) will be refunded.
Allen Upcoming Batches:
Leader Course: Starting from 8th July, 18th July, 30th July and 11th August. This is for those students who want to prepare from the basics.
Allen always works in the interest of students. Determination and hard work is most important to become a doctor.
We wish you a bright future. Thank you!
