NMC Clarification – NIOS Students Can Apply for NEET UG Exam

NMC has Given Clarification on the Issue in Response to a RTI Query

NMC has cleared the air over the issue of NIOS students’ eligibility for taking NEET UG Examination. The clarity came from NMC in its reply on a RTI Query in which it was asked whether the students of National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) can take NEET UG Examination. NMC has issued a notification clarifying the whole issue.

RTI Questions

In the RTI application, 5 questions were asked from the NMC. These 5 questions included Is National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) Board valid for (NEET-UG)?, Can I do MBBS after studying only Biology as an additional subject from (NIOS) National Institute of Open Schooling? As per the revised policies of NMC, can NIOS students also appear for NEET exam? And can MBBS degree be obtained? As per the New Policy/Guidelines 2023, will candidates who have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English be eligible for NEET U/114021/01/2024-UGMEB/pt-1 I/3746761/2025 undergraduate? and Can students who did not take Biology in class 12 but have taken Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Additionally Biology from NIOS Board also appear for NEET undergraduate Exam or not?

What NMC Said in its Notification?

Replying to the RTI Query, NMC categorically said that the students of NIOS can appear in National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) Examination. In its notification on the website, NMC said that “It has come to the notice that a confusion has been created stating that National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued NEET-UG Bulletin 2025, which is not as per NMC Regulations.

In this regard, it is clarified that the reply has been furnished to the applicant who seeks reply in regard to studying through National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS)/ State Open Schools or Private candidate.”

NMC in its notification further wrote “As per GMER-23 regulation’s on studying through NIOS is allowed for appearing for NEET UG Examinations”. It further stated, “Students are permitted to study an additional subject from NIOS with the condition that the study needs to be carried out from any authorized institutions.”
