Know on Which Parameters the Ranking is Decided
The Union Education Ministry on Thursday released the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF Ranking 2025). Students, parents and educational institutions across the country had been waiting for a long time for this ranking announced by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Like every year, this time also the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has maintained its supremacy and secured first position in the overall category.
IIT Madras was also at the top in the year 2024 and maintained its strong position on the strength of consistent excellent teaching, research and innovation. Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore was at the second place and Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) was at the third place.

In the Management category, IIM Ahmedabad has secured the first position. It was followed by IIM Bangalore, IIM Kozhikode, IIM Delhi and IIM Lucknow respectively.
In the medical category, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi has continued its tradition and secured the first position. This institute is known for consistently providing quality medical education, research and better health services to patients.
NIRF ranking is determined on the basis of 5 major parameters. These standards are as follows:
A total of 14,163 higher education institutions participated in NIRF Ranking 2025. Of these, the highest number of 5268 institutions were from South India. After this, 4702 institutes from West India, 2304 institutes from North India and 1889 institutes from East India were included.
This data shows that the field of higher education is developing rapidly in South India and the institutes here are playing a more active role at the national level.
NIRF ranking is important because it helps students to choose the right institute. When millions of students across the country want to take admission in a university, college or professional institute, they take a decision based on this ranking.
There are many reasons behind IIT Madras consistently being at the top in the ranking. World-class laboratories, research projects, international collaborations and cutting-edge technology are used here. Also, the startup ecosystem and innovation culture here provide students with an opportunity to work on new ideas.
NIRF Ranking 2025 has once again proved that Indian higher education institutions are constantly moving towards global standards. Institutions like IIT Madras, IISc Bangalore and IIM Ahmedabad still remain the first choice of students’ dreams. This ranking not only gives students an opportunity to choose better options, but also inspires institutions to work towards improving their quality.
