On Which Parameters is the NIRF Ranking Decided

NIRF ranking is determined on the basis of 5 major parameters. These standards are as follows:

  1. 30% Teaching and Learning – In this, faculty, lab facilities, classrooms, student-teacher ratio and modern educational infrastructure are evaluated.  30% Research and Professional Practices – It looks at published research papers, patents, projects and collaborations with industry.
  2. 20% Graduation Outcomes – It includes placement of students, admission in higher education and startup opportunities.
  3. 10% Outreach & Inclusivity – It focuses on the participation of female students, opportunities for Divyang students and participation of backward classes of the society.
  4. 10% Perception – It evaluates the image of the institute at national and international level.

How Many Institutions Participated this Time

A total of 14,163 higher education institutions participated in NIRF Ranking 2025. Of these, the highest number of 5268 institutions were from South India. After this, 4702 institutes from West India, 2304 institutes from North India and 1889 institutes from East India were included.

This data shows that the field of higher education is developing rapidly in South India and the institutes here are playing a more active role at the national level.

Importance of Ranking

NIRF ranking is important because it helps students to choose the right institute. When millions of students across the country want to take admission in a university, college or professional institute, they take a decision based on this ranking.

  • This increases competition among the institutes.
  • It inspires to improve quality.
  • It helps in attracting foreign students and teachers.
  • The position of Indian institutes is strengthened in the global ranking.

Why is IIT Madras on Top

There are many reasons behind IIT Madras consistently being at the top in the ranking. World-class laboratories, research projects, international collaborations and cutting-edge technology are used here. Also, the startup ecosystem and innovation culture here provide students with an opportunity to work on new ideas.

Conclusion

NIRF Ranking 2025 has once again proved that Indian higher education institutions are constantly moving towards global standards. Institutions like IIT Madras, IISc Bangalore and IIM Ahmedabad still remain the first choice of students’ dreams. This ranking not only gives students an opportunity to choose better options, but also inspires institutions to work towards improving their quality.
