The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued an important advisory for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) 2026. The objective of this advisory is to provide accurate and timely information regarding the exam to millions of engineering aspirants across the country to avoid any difficulties in the application process.
The NTA has also clarified that the exam will be conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode in two sessions – January 2026 and April 2026.
The NTA has released a tentative schedule for JEE Main 2026, ensuring all students have adequate time to prepare.
Students can participate in either or both of these sessions. Most students prefer to participate in both sessions to achieve better scores, as this gives them a chance to correct their past mistakes and improve their performance.
NTA has stated that the number of exam centers is being increased to ensure greater participation in JEE Main 2026. Its purpose is to facilitate the examination of students living in every corner of the country, eliminating the hassle of traveling to distant cities.
In addition, additional facilities will be provided at examination centers to accommodate the special needs of candidates with disabilities (PWD/PwBD). NTA has strived to ensure that every candidate, regardless of their physical condition, has equal opportunity to appear for the examination.
To make the application process transparent and simple, NTA has further strengthened the Aadhaar Authentication system. NTA has stated that when filling out the application form, candidates’ name, date of birth, gender, photo, and address information will be obtained directly from UIDAI.
However, it has also been stated that the names of parents (father/mother/guardian) are not recorded on the Aadhaar card, so candidates will need to enter this information separately in the online application form.
The NTA has addressed a very important issue—the problem of name mismatches between the Aadhaar card and the 10th grade marksheet/certificate.
Sometimes, students’ names or spellings are different on both documents, creating difficulties in the application process. To address this issue, the NTA has clarified that if a student’s name does not match on both documents, they will be given the option to correct the name or enter the correct details at the time of application.
Candidates can also refer to the public notice issued on November 6, 2024, which provided detailed guidelines under “Advisory and Instructions on Aadhaar Card Name Mismatch while filling up the application form for JEE (Main) 2025.” The same process will now apply for JEE Main 2026 as well. This information is available on the official JEE Main website, https://jeemain.nta.nic.in.
In its notice issued on September 29, 2025, the NTA urged all candidates to update their information timely and accurately. The primary purpose of this advisory was to ensure that students do not make mistakes while filling out the application and avoid any technical or administrative issues.
This time, the NTA has taken special care to make filling out the online application form even easier and more user-friendly. Candidates will be assisted at every step with auto-fill and verification features. This will reduce the likelihood of entering incorrect information and make it easier for students to obtain their admit cards.
The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) is one of the most prestigious examinations in the country, allowing students to gain admission to NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, and other prestigious engineering colleges. Additionally, this exam provides eligibility for appearing in the JEE Advanced, which opens the door to admission to IITs.
More than 1.2 million students appear for this exam every year. Therefore, it is crucial that every detail related to the application process, documents, and identity proof is accurate. This is why the NTA issues advisories and notices every year to alert students in a timely manner.
Have scanned copies of your Aadhaar card, 10th-grade marksheet, passport-size photo, and signature ready before applying.
If there is a discrepancy in your name on any document, contact UIDAI or the relevant board in time to correct it.
The NTA sends all official notifications to candidates’ email addresses or registered mobile numbers, so keep them active.
Appearing in both the January and April sessions increases your chances of scoring well.
This advisory issued by the NTA is extremely useful for JEE (Main) 2026 candidates. It covers every important point, from application dates to the authenticity of documents. Candidates should follow this information and apply on time to avoid any errors.
JEE (Main) not only paves the way to engineering, but also develops important skills such as discipline, accuracy, and time management in students. Therefore, it is advised that all candidates carefully read the instructions issued on the NTA website and focus on finalizing their preparations.
