After the announcement of country’s biggest engineering exams JEE Mains and Advanced 2018 examination dates, the applications for the CBSE Board Improvement Examinations have been issued online. For the CBSE Board Improvement Application, students will have to log on to the online portal given on the CBSE website and fill in their 12th board roll number, center number, school number and so on. Also the candidates must fill out the relevant information including address, e-mail id, contact number and upload their scanned photograph and signature. After this, the student will have to pay the required fees through e-challan, DD. Student should then take the print out of the conformation page and send it to the Regional Office with the Photocopy of the 12th Index. The last date to submit the application is 27th November without any late fees. Exam fee for students is Rs. 900 for five subjects and Rs. 180 for additional topics. After November 27, the students will have an option to apply with different late fee under prescribed deadlines.
As per the eligibility criteria, for admissions to IIT, NIT, IIIT and GFTI through JEE-Mains and Advanced Examinations, the general and OBC category students need 75 per cent marks in 12th Boards whereas SC-ST category students require 65 per cent marks or they must be under the top 20 percentile holders of their individual boards.
Board percentage was made mandatory for the eligibility criteria for admissions to NIT since last year. With this the possibility of students applying for 12th boards improvement examinations has significantly increased. Initially, according to the rules, students who couldn’t fulfill the board’s criteria had to give improvement examination in all subjects, but according to the notice given by the CBSE this year, the students appearing for JEE 2018 can apply for re-examinations in one or more subjects according to their requirements. Yet, there is non-clarity about the number of subjects a student can give improvement examination for due to the non-releasing of JEE-Main and Advanced Information Bulletin.
Important :
CBSE has also given the option to change the area in the Board Improvement Application. As a result, students would be able to give their improvement examination from the areas they are situated but students will get the Home State rank from the same state on the basis of JEE-Main, from where the student first appeared for the 12th Board examination.
