RBSE to Conduct Class 10th & 12th Exams Twice a Year

Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) will introduce twice a year exam from 2026-27 session

A major change is about to take place in the education sector of Rajasthan. Taking a cue from CBSE, the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) also has announced that the Class 10th and 12th board examinations will now be conducted twice a year from the academic session 2026-27.

This move is considered an important initiative to give students more opportunities and reduce exam pressure.

Why was the change needed?

For a long time, it has been observed that students depend on the results of a single examination. If, for any reason, they are unable to perform well, they have to wait a whole year.

Considering this problem, the Rajasthan Board has decided to implement this system, which will give students an additional opportunity to improve their performance.

Education Minister Madan Dilawar, while announcing this policy, stated that the new system is in line with the National Education Policy (NEP-2020).

Its objective is to provide students with repeated opportunities to learn and improve, thereby increasing both their confidence and examination skills.

How will the new examination system work?

From now on, the Rajasthan Board will conduct both the 10th and 12th examinations twice a year — the first opportunity as the main examination and the second opportunity for improvement or for students who were absent.

  • Component-Details
  • Date of Implementation-From the academic session 2026-27
  • Number of Exams-Twice a year (First and Second Opportunity)
  • First Exam-Compulsory for all students
  • Second Exam-Optional (for score improvement or absence)
  • Syllabus-Both exams will be based on the complete syllabus
  • Result-‘Best of Two’ — The better score from the two attempts will be included in the final result

The first examination is likely to be held between February and March, and the second examination between May and June.

Students will get a “Golden Chance”

With this system, students will now get not one but two opportunities. If a student does not get the expected marks in the first examination, they will get a chance to improve in the second examination.

This change has also brought relief to students who, for some reason, were unable to appear for the first examination. If a student has a valid reason or a medical certificate, they can appear for the second examination.

Facility for Improving Marks

  1. Students who pass the first examination will get an opportunity to improve their marks in a maximum of three subjects.
  2. Students who receive a supplementary grade will also be able to retake the examination in a maximum of three subjects.
  3. Students who fail the first time will be given an opportunity to reappear in the subjects they failed.
  4. If a student fails even the second time, they will have to appear only in the main examination of the next academic session.

Benefits of this Decision

  1. Stress-free education system:

Since the entire future will not depend on a single examination, the mental pressure on students will be reduced. Now they will know that they will still get an opportunity to improve.

  1. Opportunity for performance improvement:

Many students are unable to perform well the first time, but the second time they can understand their weaknesses and prepare better.

  1. Increased confidence:

Getting continuous opportunities for improvement will increase the confidence of the students and they will try to understand the subjects in depth.

  1. Change in line with the education policy:

The National Education Policy 2020 also stipulates that the evaluation system should be made more flexible and opportunity-oriented. This decision of the Rajasthan Board is a step taken in that direction.

  1. Fair results:

Under the ‘Best of Two’ rule, only the better marks of the students will be added to the final result. This will make the evaluation of students more fair and transparent.

Suggestions for Students and Parents

  1. Consider the first examination as the main opportunity: Students should prepare thoroughly in the first attempt so that they do not need to improve their marks. 2. Adopt a smart preparation strategy: Revise the difficult topics in the syllabus first and make notes.
  2. Parental support: Parents should not put pressure on children, but instead encourage them to make positive use of both opportunities.
  3. Focus on time management: Planned study is essential for taking the exam twice a year.

This decision by the Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education is a historic step in the state’s education system. It will not only provide more opportunities for students but also make the examination system more flexible and student-centric. Stress-free education, fair evaluation, and the possibility of improvement—all these benefits make this new policy worthwhile.

If implemented correctly, this plan will prove to be a “golden chance” for millions of students in Rajasthan and will give a new direction to the state’s education system.
