Slow Pace of JEE-Main 2025 Registrations – Only 5.10 Lakh Students Register so Far

Last Date for Registration is 22 November

The application process for the January session of the country’s largest engineering entrance exam JEE-Main is underway. Relatively, the pace of the registrations is slow as, in the last 14 days, only 5 lakh 10 thousand students have applied so far.

The last date for application is 22 November. Last year, more than 12 lakh 21 thousand students had applied for the first session.

No Relief for OBC and EWS Category Students

Career counseling expert of ALLEN Career Institute, said that this year the pace of the application process is very slow. Thousands of students are not able to apply because this year for the first time during JEE-Main application, OBC and EWS students have been asked for category certificate ID and issue date as well as the name of the officer issuing the certificate.

If these restrictions are not relaxed in the category application, then the student will be forced to apply in the general category despite belonging to the category.

Generally, at the time of admission in IIT-NIT, only the certificate of OBC EWS category issued after 1st April of the current year is valid. In such a situation, for admission in this session also, the certificate issued after 1st April 2025 will be valid.

In view of this, the OBC and EWS certificate details sought in the application right now are only a formality, because all these students will have to get their new certificate made during counselling.

Therefore, considering all these things, NTA should make the column with category certificate details optional.

Without giving this information, aspirants are not able to file applications. In such a situation, OBC and EWS students are in great trouble.

The challenge before the students is that they have to get their certificate made before applying. Otherwise, application without certificate will not be possible, whereas in the past years, students had to fill only their category.

FAQ Clarification Also Not Issued

This year NTA has not issued any FAQ for application so that students can get a solution to their problems in application. On the other hand, a large number of students are contacting NTA daily but no clarification is being received from there. In such a situation, students are unable to apply.

If thousands of students are applying for category certificate, but it takes a lot of time to complete the formalities for getting it made.

There is a fear among students that they may miss the application and their year may get wasted. In such a situation, NTA should give such students relaxation in application as before or find a solution so that students can apply by the due date.
