The Number of Attempts was Increased from Two to Three, Earlier this Month
The Joint Admission Board (JAB) has decided to restore the earlier eligibility criterion for JEE Advanced 2025 Exam used in the previous years pertaining to number of attempts in JEE (Advanced) in supersession of the criterion mentioned in Press Release dated November 05, 2024. The previous press release issued on 5 November had announced to increase the number of JEE Advanced attempts from two to three which has again has been restored to two attempts.
Giving reason for the restoration of two attempts, JAB has asserted that “This has been done after considering various competing requirements in the meeting of JAB held on November 15, 2024. This has resulted in restoring the earlier eligibility criteria followed since 2013. All other eligibility criteria remain same. For further details please refer to the website https://jeeadv.ac.in/. Now the following criteria has been restored.”
Number of Attempts (Criterion-A3)
A candidate can attempt JEE (Advanced) maximum of two times in two consecutive years.
Appearance in Class XII (or equivalent) Examination (Criterion-A4)
A candidate should have appeared for the Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in either 2024 or 2025 with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics as compulsory subjects.
Candidates who had appeared in Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in 2023 or earlier, are NOT eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2025, irrespective of the combination or number of subjects attempted/offered.
By appearance in Class XII (or equivalent) examination, it is meant that the Board concerned declared the result for that year irrespective of whether or not examination was conducted. It will be considered as an appearance even if the result of a particular candidate got withheld.
However, if the examination Board of Class XII (or equivalent) declared the results for the academic year 2022-23 on or after September 21, 2023, then the candidates of that Board who appeared for their Class XII (or equivalent) examination in 2023 are also eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2025, provided they meet all the other eligibility criteria. In case the examination Board of Class XII (or equivalent) declared the results for the academic year 2022-23 before September 21, 2023 but the result of a particular candidate was withheld for whatever reason, then the candidate will not be eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2025.
