Ved Lahoti: The Journey of a topper – from IIT to MIT

Allen Alumni, Ved Lahoti, was the Topper of JEE Advanced 2024

When he started studying in Kota, for the first time Ved Lahoti thought of MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). At that time he saw some students going to MIT and from here this dream started growing in his mind.

However, during the preparation of JEE and due to Olympiads, it was not possible to complete the long and complicated process of MIT at that time. But he had decided that if he could not do it at that time, he would definitely try in the first year of college. And this is what happened.

Why he gave preference to MIT over IIT Bombay?

After securing the highest rank in JEE Advanced, everyone believed that Ved would now study Computer Science in IIT Bombay.

He also took admission and started studying. But the desire to go to MIT remained in his mind. He decided that he would take out time during the first year of studies and apply for transfer to MIT.

Ved said that the selection of MIT was not just for the name, but the facilities, research opportunities, and recognition on the global stage attracted him.

He did his own research, talked to seniors and gathered information through MIT’s website and other online resources.

What is the selection process of MIT?

Admission to MIT is not decided only by marks. There the overall development of the students is seen – academic achievements, technical projects, research, extracurricular activities, social work, and most importantly – personality.

This entire process involves writing personal essays, getting recommendation letters from the school and also an interview which is conducted by MIT alumni.

This interview is not formal but is like a normal conversation, in which an attempt is made to know why the student wants to come to MIT, and what he wants to do there.

Preparation and the role of Allen Global

ALLEN Global helped Ved at every step in this entire process. They gave proper guidance, prepared me for exams like SAT and IELTS, helped me write essays, conducted mock interviews and provided me with all the technical information which is generally not available in India.

Would I have been selected if I had applied in 11th?

Ved believes that it is difficult to say. The selection process of MIT is very uncertain. Many times, despite having a very strong profile, one does not get selected.

Therefore, it is not possible to say that success would have been achieved in the first attempt. But he believes that confidence comes with time – when you cross small milestones, then bigger goals seem closer.

Family’s reaction

When Ved informed his mother over the phone about his selection in MIT, her happiness knew no bounds. A wave of happiness ran through the entire family because Ved is the first member of his family who is going to America for studies with such a big achievement.

Future plans

Ved will continue studying computer science at MIT, but he plans to explore other subjects in the future as well. He believes that everything will be understood gradually and he will decide the path accordingly. This is Ved’s nature – to take each step thoughtfully and in a solid manner.

Message to future students

Ved wants to give the message to those students who are preparing for JEE or dreaming of studying abroad that hard work is necessary and if you can do it, then definitely do it.

If you want to go to institutes like MIT, then you should start from 9th or 10th, so that a strong profile can be prepared.

Final words–This journey of Ved Lahoti tells that dreams are not just seen, they are lived – with hard work, confidence and with the right guidance. This journey from IIT Bombay to MIT was not just from one institute to another, but from one thought to a new approach.

Best wishes to Ved for his future life.
