When will NEET 2021 be held? Here’s what the Education Minister said about it

The Biggest National Entrance Exam NEET is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) every year for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, Veterinary, and other Medical/Paramedical Courses in India. Being the sole entrance examination for MBBS and BDS courses, NEET is highly celebrated among Indian students. The official announcement about exam dates is yet to be made; NEET aspirants are eagerly awaiting the National Medical Entrance Exam’s Schedule.

Due the pandemic, the calendars of many entrance exams have been rescheduled. JEE Main, the National Entrance Exam for engineering courses in India, is scheduled to be conducted four times this year, as announced by the Education Ministry, to ensure that aspirants do not miss out on opportunities due to the pandemic and to avoid the clash of board exams and other competitive exams. CBSE 12th Board exams 2021 are also postponed, and will be conducted from 4th May 2021, and will continue till 10th June 2021. The date Sheet and schedule for boards are yet to be released.

There are many speculations in the air about the dates of NEET 2021; some are contemplating that the dates will be announced by the end of January. Medical Aspirants across India have requested the Union Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, to increase NEET attempts in 2021. The Minister has also hinted that NEET might be conducted twice a year.

As the government has decided to increase the JEE Main attempts from two to four starting this year- in February, March, April, and May, NEET aspirants have also become hopeful about an increase in NEET attempts.

Aspirants took it to social media and requested Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank that the exam, typically held once a year, be conducted twice amid the COVID-19 situation.

News Courtesy India TV: The education minister has asserted that an announcement on NEET could be made in the following 10-15 days. However, no Official Notification regarding the announcement has been released. When asked if the exam would be conducted twice a year, the Minister asserted that they are exploring all the possibilities and hinted at increasing the number of attempts along with JEE 2021. In all probability, the government is headed in that direction and considers the feasibility of conducting NEET twice a year.

Recently, NTA had also addressed the Union Health Ministry, asking whether the entrance test could be held twice a year. It said the move would reduce the immense stress and pressure faced by students.

Last year, the exam was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was conducted on 13th September, wherein over 13.66 lakh students appeared. NTA developed a detailed protocol, followed safety and social distancing norms, and ensured the exams were conducted in a “touchless” manner.
