CBSE has Revised Grading System to Convert Marks into Grades
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) board has introduced key changes in the syllabus of class 10 and class 12. While adopting a 9-point grading system, CBSE board has changed the grading system for the Class 10 and 12 board exams 2026 whereby marks will be transformed into grades.
The changes in the class 10 and class 12 by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) have been introduced to enhance skill-based learning opportunities and academic framework.
New Subjects for Class 10
CBSE has announced skill-based subjects in Class 10. Students now will be able to choose from any of the three skill-based subjects including Artificial Intelligence, Computer applications and information technology.
Moreover, the class 10 students of CBSE will have to select from English or Hindi as their language subjects. The class 10 students can take these language subjections in class 9 or class 10.
Students can substitute with a passed skill subject or an optional language subject for final result calculation, if a student fails a language or core subjects like Science, Mathematics, and Social Science.

Class 10 Board examination twice a year from 2026
The CBSE will conduct class 10 board examinations twice a year from the year 2026. The aim of conducting dual examinations in 2026 is to provide more opportunities to the class 10 students for improving their class 10 score.
Also, this move will reduce examination pressure on the board students of Class 10 CBSE. The class 10 board examinations will be held in February and April months from the academic session 2025-26.
Changes in curriculum of Class 12
Unlike class 10, Class 12 CBSE Board exams will be held once a year. The CBSE board class 12 examination will begin from 17 February. However, there are other changes in the class 12 CBSE. In order to promote practical and vocational skills among the students, CBSE board has announced some skill-based subjects.
CBSE board has introduced 4 new skill-based subjects including Design Thinking and Innovation, Land Transportation associate, electronics and hardware and Physical Activity Trainer.
Languages, Humanities, Mathematics, Sciences, Skill Subjects, General Studies, and Health & Physical Education are the major learning areas in the revised Class 12 syllabus.
Revised Grading System
The CBSE board has also introduced revision in the grading system while introducing changes in the curriculum.
CBSE has also revised the grading criteria for both Class 10 and 12 board exams. Marks will be transformed into grades while utilising a 9-point grading system.
