The Purpose of the Scholarship Scheme is Support Financial Weak Meritorious Students
A sigh of relief has come from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for thousands of students studying in college or university.
CBSE has started the scholarship application process for the 2025-26 academic session under the Central Sector Scholarship Scheme (CSSS). The purpose of this scheme is to assist meritorious but financially weak students in higher education.
What is CBSE’s Central Sector Scholarship Scheme (CSSS)?
This scholarship scheme is run by the Department of Higher Education of the Government of India and operated by CBSE.
Its objective is to provide financial assistance for further studies to students who perform well in 12th so that they can complete their college or university studies without financial worries.
Last Date for Application for Scholarship
Students who want to apply for this scheme or are already availing the benefits and want to get it renewed, will have to apply online by 31 October 2025.
Eligibility Criteria for CBSE Scholarship
The following parameters have been taken into consideration to decide the eligibility for the scholarship:
- Academic performance: The student must have secured 80% or more marks in the CBSE 12th examination.
- Age limit: The age of the student applying should be between 18 to 25 years.
- Family income: The total annual income of the student’s family should be less than ₹6 lakh. A valid income certificate is mandatory for this.
- Other Scholarship: The student cannot avail the benefit of any other scholarship at the same time. If he is already availing benefit under any other scheme then he will be considered ineligible for CSSS.
- Recognition of University or College: The college or university in which the student is studying should be recognized by UGC.
Benefit of Scholarship

- Under this scheme, the selected students get a scholarship of ₹10,000 to ₹20,000 per year, which is useful for their graduation and post-graduation studies.

- At graduation level (first 3 years) – ₹10,000 per annum

- At post-graduation level – ₹20,000 per annum

- This amount is transferred directly to the bank account of the students.
How to Apply? (Application Process)

- The student has to visit the official website of National Scholarship Portal (NSP) [https://scholarships.gov.in]

- Click on the link of “Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students” there.

- Do a new registration or login if already registered.

- Upload all the necessary documents like 12th mark sheet, income certificate, copy of bank passbook, Aadhaar card etc.

- Fill the application form completely and submit it before the last date.
Procedure for Renewal of Scholarship

- Students who are already availing the benefits of this scheme have to renew the scholarship every year.

- The condition for renewal is that the student has obtained at least 60% marks in his previous semester/year and his attendance is more than 75%.

- Renewal can also be done online on the NSP portal.
