IIT Bombay Ranks 7 in Number of Branches
The country’s most difficult and prestigious engineering entrance exam JEE Advanced is the medium through which admission is given to 17 thousand 740 seats in 23 IITs of the country.
This year these seats have increased by 355 seats as compared to last year, the main reason for which can be considered to be the opening of new branches by many IITs this year.
IIT Patna has the most number of branches & Goa has the least number of branches
There are a total of 304 branches in all 23 IITs, out of which 245 branches are of B.Tech 4 year degree course and 59 branches are of M.Tech dual degree program. IIT Patna is number 1 in number of branches and is also at the top in opening new branches.
This year IIT Patna has opened 13 new branches in which branches like Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electronics and Communication, Engineering Physics, Maths and Computing, Metallurgy, Electrical and Electronics, AI and Data Science, Mechanical, and Economics have been started in B.Tech. along with 5 year MBA course with Eco. In this way IIT Patna has the maximum number of 32 branches.
After this, IIT BHU has 24 branches, IIT Kharagpur has 22 branches, IIT Roorkee and IIT Ropar have 18 branches, IIT Delhi has 17 branches, IIT Bombay, IIT Dhanbad, IIT Hyderabad and IIT Madras have 15 branches, IIT Kanpur has 14 branches, IIT Guwahati and IIT Mandi have 12 branches, IIT Gandhinagar has 11 branches, IIT Jodhpur has 10 branches, IIT Indore and IIT Dharwad have 9 branches, IIT Bhubaneshwar, IIT Jammu and IIT Bhilai have 7 branches, IIT Tirupati has 6 branches, IIT Palakkad has 5 and the least number of branches is 4 in IIT Goa.
Why are there less branches in new IITs?
IITs opened in the year 2017 like Bhilai, Jammu, Palakkad, Tirupati, Goa have only 4 to 7 branches. The biggest reason for this is that these IITs do not have complete arrangements of infrastructure, labs, hostels, placement cells and other basic facilities.
Along with this, there is no special interest of students in these IITs because with the passage of time, students develop faith in the placement and exposure of IIT.
In such a situation, new IITs first of all open only core branches like computer, electrical, electronics, civil, mechanical, chemical and then increase new branches as per the needs, arrangements and time.
