JEE Main 2026 Jan Session – Aspirants in Fix Over NTA’s Move

New Crisis is Surrounding Live Photo

The JEE Main 2026 January Session aspirants are troubled due to latest move of the National Testing Agency (NTA). JEE Main 2026 candidates are confused and worried over the issue of student identity and live photo verification.

Students who assumed their applications had been duly accepted are now suddenly receiving emails from the NTA, further exacerbating their difficulties.

Why are problems occurring even though the entire form is correct?

Many candidates say they filled the form using their Aadhaar card, uploaded their live photo successfully and their application process was complete but despite this, the NTA is now claiming that the live photo does not match the UIDAI (Aadhaar) record. Such students are now being asked to complete a new process again.

According to the NTA, three types of cases are being created.

  1. Students applying using non-Aadhaar credentials

Candidates who applied using a PAN card or passport have already been instructed to:

  • Download a Photo Identity Proof Certificate
  • Get it verified by the school principal
  • Re-upload it to the login portal
  • Bring it to the exam centre
  1. Students filling out forms using DigiLocker

The NTA has now also included students who applied using DigiLocker in this category. These candidates will also have to follow the same process and upload their certificates by January 7, 2026.

  1. Students receiving notices despite filling out forms using Aadhaar

This is the most serious and shocking case. A large number of students have come forward who applied using their Aadhaar card, their live photo matched the Aadhaar photo and their application was fully accepted but yet the NTA is now claiming that the face recognition quality of their live photo does not match the UIDAI record.

Technical Defects Reported in Live Photos

According to the NTA, the following problems have been found in live photos in many cases:

  • Faces not in the correct frame
  • Face coverage less than 80%
  • Photo stretched or blurred
  • Lack of proper angle or lighting

For these reasons, students are now being asked to submit their certificates again despite Aadhaar authentication.

What should all students do?

In light of this new action by the NTA, it is extremely important for all candidates to:

  • Regularly log in to their JEE Main login portal
  • Check if the option to upload a Photo Identity Proof Certificate is visible
  • Continuously check your email (both inbox and spam)
  • If this option has appeared in your login, then:
  • Get your school principal to verify the certificate
  • Get the school’s seal and signature
  • Upload it before January 7, 2026

What will be on the certificate?

  • The certificate issued by the NTA is completely individualized, and includes:
  • Candidate’s name
  • JEE Main application number
  • Candidate’s photo

Therefore, any negligence may prevent you from appearing in the exam in the future.

Caution is the best defence

Even if you have filled out the JEE Main 2025 form correctly and have already verified your Aadhaar, it is still mandatory to check your login details in the current situation.

The NTA is still sending emails, and more students may receive notices in the coming days. The deadline is January 7, 2026, so delaying could be costly. All candidates are advised to regularly check their login details over the next few days and not ignore any new instructions.
