Surge in Applications & Technical Glitch Causing Inconvenience to Thousands of Students
The NEET-UG 2024, the country’s largest medical entrance examination, is currently underway with a surge in applications. However, technical glitches are causing registration delays and frustration among thousands of students.

Record Number of Applicants:
As of now, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has received over 21 Lakh applications for the NEET-UG 2024 exam, marking the highest number of registrations in its history.
Registration Statistics:
- Last year, the exam saw 20,874,62 registrations, with 20,385,96 candidates appearing for the test.
- NEET-UG encompasses approximately 20 Lakh seats across various medical disciplines such as MBBS, Dental, Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Veterinary, and Nursing.
Trend of Registrations:
- Registrations have been steadily increasing over the years, with figures reaching 22.5 Lakh this year.
- Registrations in previous years are as follows: 2013 – 717,127, 2014 – 579,707, 2015 – 374,386, 2016 – 802,594, 2017 – 1,138,890, 2018 – 1,326,725, 2019 – 1,519,375, 2020 – 1,597,435, 2021 – 1,614,777, 2022 – 1,872,343, 2023 – 2,087,462.

Registration Challenges:
Students are facing difficulties due to the non-receipt of OTP (One Time Password) verification codes, resulting in a halt in the registration process since 6th March, 4 PM.
Social Media Response:
Students have taken to social media platforms to voice their concerns and seek solutions to their registration issues.
Demand for Extension:
There is a growing demand among students for an extension of the online application deadline by at least 7 days, citing various problems encountered during the process.
Reason for Delays:
The delay in receiving OTP is attributed to the time taken for updating mobile numbers in Aadhar cards, which is currently taking 7 to 10 days.
Conclusion:
In light of these challenges, extending the application deadline seems necessary to ensure equal opportunities for all aspiring candidates.
